Memoir

I felt compelled to write, and as I did, the past had a curious way of slipping into the present.
Memories surfaced:

Tales of madness and mayhem in a career in psychiatry.
Some funny, some heartbreaking, many revealing how thin the line is between those struggling with mental illness and those caring for them.

A past wrestling with addiction and searching for “out there” before discovering what is quietly waiting to be discovered within.

A past life in a loving marriage, rich with devotion but fraught with differences.

Interspersed within, tales of a spiritual journey looking for God in the faces of teachers, and finding unexpected wisdom on the yoga mat and the meditation cushion.

Adventures through herbal and Ayurveda schools, learning from the land, and eventually answering a call to cross the country and build the House of All.

This memoir is woven from memories, journals, blogs, and transmission from life’s most mysterious corners.

And it starts in 2nd grade, with a little girl standing in a school lunch line beside a woman who took her hand and placed a book about dragons there. With a lesson that life must be built with a strong foundation.

Then years later, a letter was written to her boyfriend. part love letter and part wish list. Perhaps ahead of its time. Asking for a playmate, someone to laugh, dream, and build something meaningful with.

A misunderstood and maybe mis-aligned young woman in need of finding a life with her soul’s purpose. A life that needed to be built one brick at a time. A story that comes full circle.
